Leaning In: Why I’m revamping how I do business
My mindset shifts are happening slowly, but they’re happening.
And my business is going to benefit because of it.
My work is going to go back to focusing on the heart of why I started. To create gorgeous images and help people feel like the best, most authentic version of themselves. Because when I get back to the heart of why I started, and focus on making every single client experience as beautiful as I can, I know the rest will follow.
Product Photography with JK Photos
A study by VWO (a visual website optimization firm) revealed that websites with high-quality images experienced a 35% increase in conversions compared to those with low-quality images or stock photography.
Let’s be clear: the pictures you take aren’t bad. But bringing in a pro is proven to equal more sales. So if you’re ready to grow your business, sell more products, and earn more money, a professional photographer is an excellent investment.
Your Guide to Branding Photography with JK Photos
Last year I made a blog post titled “10 Steps to Planning Your Custom Branding Photography Session” where I reviewed my process step by step, from our first meeting to your finished pictures. Since then, my process has changed a bit so I wanted to update that with a new post that gives you insight into the branding photography process.
This is your guide to getting gorgeous images that help you show up authentically online and draw in the clients you want to work with.

Photo Post: Selfie Studio
If you’re in the Tri-Cities, WA area, you want to check this place out.
It’s called the Selfie Studio and it’s located in Downtown Kennewick. This space is so cool, it’s basically a dozen or so little areas that are totally decked out with different backdrops and props. Not only is it a great space to spend an afternoon of wholesome fun creating pictures and videos with friends, they’re also a great spot to get team photos with your staff.
Branding and Posing: Tips for your next photoshoot | Eastern WA Branding Photographer
Let’s be real: most people are a little self-conscious in front of the camera. It’s just a fact, especially for women, especially for women who aren’t used to being the center of attention.
Here are some posing tips and tricks to use in your next branding photography session.
Photo Post: Bee Fused Permanent Jewelry Branding
This year I’ve had the opportunity to work with an amazing woman who’s doing big things and making huge moves in her business. She’s a badass, compassionate, gorgeous lady who entered the world of permanent jewelry with a purpose.
How to embrace your weird for more authentic pictures | Eastern WA branding photographer
One of the biggest reasons for a branding photography session (outside of making your life easier with made-for-you marketing images) is showcasing what makes you uniquely wonderful. This helps draw in your ideal clients, the people you want to serve the most. To do this, I highly encourage my clients (and you!) to embrace their weird. Lean into it. Get as weird – or as unweird – as you truly want to be.
But how do you do this?
Let’s talk about it.
3 ways to be more authentic in front of the camera | Tri-Cities, WA branding photographer
Being in front of the camera comes naturally to a lot of people who grew up with smartphones and selfies, but for many of us it still feels weird and uncomfortable. My clients often say that one of the things that has stopped them thus far from getting updated images of themselves is that they feel awkward having their pictures taken. They’re not necessarily self-conscious – although that’s nothing to be ashamed of – but they just don’t know how to be themselves when there’s a camera being shoved in their face.
So today, I’m here to help.
Here are some helpful tips to being more authentic in front of the camera:
Photo Post: Group Branding at Studio Bespoke
I think my favorite part of the group branding sessions I had this year was the connection I watched happen between the women who attended. They all got to know each other in a way that otherwise wouldn’t have happened, which is a huge deal to me. My goal with these was to give small business owners a chance to get gorgeous pictures at a lower cost than a full session while also providing some connections with other entrepreneurs.
5 Ways to showcase your business this holiday season
Normally I wouldn’t even THINK about talking winter holidays until like November 20th.
They’re just not my thing.
But you know what is my thing?
Pictures. Lifting up other businesses. Making business owners’ lives easier. Creating gorgeous images for you to use in your marketing.
Holiday Branding made easy
On November 7th, 8th, and 9th I will be traveling around the Tri-Cities capturing gorgeous branding images for up to 12 businesses.
These are designed to help you kickstart your holiday marketing, get fabulous images to entice shoppers to spend their valuable time and money with you, and make you feel confident and ready for the holiday rush.
Great branding and visibility
Having a recognizable brand, a brand that evokes emotions, a brand that makes people WANT to work with you… those are the things that will get your business in front of more people. Which means your visibility will skyrocket if you have something interesting to say and pair it with something beautiful to showcase.
Which leads perfectly into your branding images. 😉
Photo Post: Realty with personality
This was such a fun branding session because each location was so different that we were able to capture so much of Claire’s personality and what makes her amazing and unique. She wasn’t afraid to laugh at herself or change her outfit in the middle of the desert. We had a blast.
How to get your best headshot
When you’re not quite ready for a full branding session, but need professional images to get you started, a simple headshot session may be just the ticket.
But you don’t want boring old pictures, even if it’s simple. So how do you get that great headshot?
I’m so glad you asked! These are some of the tips I give my clients to help them get started on being comfortable and authentic in front of the camera.
Photo Post: Pictures from a local restaurant
Locally owned businesses are a blast to work with.
And what’s even better is working with locally owned businesses I LOVE.
The very first time I went to Crepehaus & El Compadre I was amazed. There aren’t a lot of places where a vegetarian, someone with food allergies, and a person on a special diet can all go and get delicious food without ordering off-menu. But the owners, Jackie, Al, and Marvin, have created a space where that can happen.
Group Branding #2: Photos from the session
My 2nd Group Branding Session was held in May, and it was a hit with the women who joined me!
…
This time around I’m going to post a few pictures from each woman’s session and link their business. They were all a blast to work with, so chances are being their client would be awesome too. Check them out!
Showcasing Your Brand: Tips for Incorporating Your Existing Brand into Photography Sessions
I talk a lot about establishing your brand through branding photography, but what if you already have an established brand and you need to have a photoshoot to create new content?
Incorporate your existing brand into those pictures! Your photographer should have steps to get that information from you, but to give you some ideas on how you can do it here are some helpful tips.
Picante Mexican Taqueria Branding: Photos from the session
Restaurants are a blast to shoot, because the process of making the food, the interactions between staff and customers, and the meals themselves add so much variety to the session. Recently, I worked with Picante Mexican Taqueria as they opened their brick-and-mortar location (they used to be a food truck) to create some beautiful pictures for them.
