9 pictures every entrepreneur should get during their branding photography session
My clients are tired of wasting time and money getting the right picture to market their business. That’s why I put together this list of 9 pictures to get during your branding photography session. So that you can remove the stressor of “what to photograph” from your ever-growing list and focus on making money in your business.
This list gives you ideas on what to showcase during your professional branding photography session, but is not all-inclusive. Your photographer should be able to help you narrow this down and really capture the heart and personality of your specific business.
9 pictures every entrepreneur should get during their branding photography session
1) Behind the scenes
Pictures of you doing your work is key. Running your business requires a lot of behind the scenes work and that can look like working at your laptop doing back end work, or creating your art or products that you sell, or interacting with employees at a meeting. There are a lot of behind the scenes options to photograph, and you should have a few different ones done during your branding session.
2) Product shots
If you sell products, you need to show them off! Beautiful product shots in a style that goes with your brand are pertinent in making those sales. For these, lighting and staging are everything and that’s not always easy to attain if you’re not a professional stager/photographer.
3) Working with a client
When you have client work as the core of your business you need pictures that put your clients right in that seat. They want to see what it looks like to sit down and work with you and showing other people working with you can do just that. If you own a brick-and-mortar shop, client work would look like you helping a customer check out, or find the right item. There are a number of ways to get models for those shots. You can ask your existing clients if they want to model. You can ask family and friends to come be a part of your branding pictures. Or you can do an open call on your social media pages. Whatever you do: don’t forget to get a signed model release!
4) Packaging up orders
If you sell products or have gifts you give to service-based clients, pictures of you packing up those items are great to feature. They can show the human side of the order the client has placed, reminding them that they’re supporting a small business. Or they can show how much you appreciate your clients through the extra value you provide in their gifts.
5) Updated headshots – professional
Headshots are the number one thing all professionals think they need. And they’re not wrong. BUT your headshots should show your personality, even the professional ones. Clients want to see your face, and professional headshots help show your authority in your industry. They should embrace your personality and show you in your space, again putting potential clients right in front of you.
6) Full body laid back portraits
These are pictures of you as well, but more playful and fun. They can feature you relaxing in your office or sitting at your desk working. Or even pictures of you laughing while enjoying a break with your staff. Showing a “zoomed out” view of you, your workspace, and your atmosphere.
7) Closeups of supplies
Everyone has supplies that they MUST have in their business. Whether you’re an artist who uses physical tools to create, or you have favorite office supplies that help you organize your coaching practice. Even your laptop counts! Closeups of your supplies, your tools, and you using those items are helpful when you need a general “stock” photo, because they’re more personalized to your specific work.
8) Location shots
If you have a physical location where clients come to work with you – like an office or a brick and mortar shop or restaurant – you want pictures to show off the aesthetic you’ve created. Full room pictures, outdoor building images, and even candid pictures of people working inside your space can all help clients get a better idea of what it’s like to work with you.
9) Stepping away from business
I encourage all clients to feature a little personal info. Even if they don’t want to do a full story with their family or out and about, taking some pictures outside the “office” really helps humanize you and your business. Seeing you as more of a real person, perhaps even a friend, really helps draw in the type of person you want to work with. This can look like you snuggling on a couch with your family, or you out at your favorite coffee shop enjoying a hot drink, or even you volunteering with your favorite nonprofit. Whatever represents your personality, and adheres to the image you want potential clients to connect to, embrace that!
I hope this helps give you some ideas of what to include in your branding images, and removes some of the stress over planning your next branding photography session.
