3 ways to be more authentic in front of the camera | Tri-Cities, WA branding photographer
Being in front of the camera comes naturally to a lot of people who grew up with smartphones and selfies, but for many of us it still feels weird and uncomfortable. My clients often say that one of the things that has stopped them thus far from getting updated images of themselves is that they feel awkward having their pictures taken. They’re not necessarily self-conscious – although that’s nothing to be ashamed of – but they just don’t know how to be themselves when there’s a camera being shoved in their face.
So today, I’m here to help.
Here are some helpful tips to being more authentic in front of the camera:
How to get your best headshot
When you’re not quite ready for a full branding session, but need professional images to get you started, a simple headshot session may be just the ticket.
But you don’t want boring old pictures, even if it’s simple. So how do you get that great headshot?
I’m so glad you asked! These are some of the tips I give my clients to help them get started on being comfortable and authentic in front of the camera.
Women’s Retreat Self-Love Portraits
The 2023 Self-Love Women’s Retreat in Tri-Cities, WA was a chance for women to learn about self-care and self-love, and they each had a chance to step in front of the camera for a personal portrait session.
Even though we’re in the same place and limited to the spaces within the retreat venue for location, we always find a way to personalize the women’s sessions just a little bit. Whether that’s simply switching from inside to outside, adding a little bit of personality, or even removing ourselves from the group altogether to find a quiet secluded area. These women nailed their sessions, and I am so excited to share more of their images here.
Guest Post: Picture Perfect - the difference a professional photographer can make
For the first time on JK Photos Blog, I have a guest writer! Her name is Jennifer, and here’s a little bit about her:
Jennifer Scott is a lifelong sufferer of anxiety and depression. A single mom, she writes about the ups and downs of her mental illness on SpiritFinder.org. The blog serves as both a source of information for people with mental illness and a forum where those living with anxiety and depression can come together to discuss their experiences.
For my blog, Jennifer has written a piece on hiring a professional photographer, covering several types of photography and some helpful resources along the way. Enjoy!
